about the team
we work hard for our clients. we love coffee, green tea, wine, kombucha, and infused water. what brings us together, what really drives us all, is that each (and every one) of us believes there’s always a better way to do something. this is what keeps us going. a better way to serve clients, a better way to serve each other, and a better way to serve our communities.
Dorothy Freeman Self
For over 13 years Dorothy Freeman Self has been a transformational leader in the marketing, advertising, and brand building community in both the Upstate of South Carolina and nationally. Dorothy is the founder of dfs creative concepts, a full service marketing agency.
Dorothy spent the majority of her formative years in San Francisco, California followed by Jacksonville, Florida. She received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Furman University. Dorothy began her marketing career handling strategic partnerships and events for Gannett, the parent company of The Greenville News Media Group. During her tenure with The News, she quickly rose through the ranks to handle both B2C and B2B marketing initiatives.
After experiencing great success in these roles, she recognized (and gave into) the entrepreneurial spirit within and decided to start her own agency.
dfs creative concepts has quickly grown from serving local clients to international clients since its inception in 2013. As such, Dorothy has been honored by numerous publications for her work in the industry. Additionally, dfs creative concepts was awarded the Business of Integrity award by the Better Business Bureau of the Upstate. Subsequently, she was asked to step into the role of board member for the BBB of the Upstate, and also tapped to serve as Vice Chairwoman for the LARP (Local Advertising Review Panel), where she focuses her time on educating businesses about how to advertise ethically and effectively to further trust in the marketplace.
Dorothy is also a published author, having written for lifestyle magazines in the Upstate for many years. This passion for telling stories is what drives her and her team to tell their clients’ stories in effective, engaging, and emotional ways.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son, Freeman, and their dog, Sullivan.
Mona is responsible for directing and supporting account managers, coordinators, and summer associates. She reviews our clients’ performance reporting on a daily basis, finding areas of opportunity and evaluating ways our campaigns can be further optimized. A Greenville native, Kayla graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Clemson University. Fun fact: Kayla’s favorite summer memory saw her living in a small North Carolina beach town with two of her dearest friends. True to form, she spent her days working at a local surf shop and explored the shores of the Outer Banks on the weekends.
Lily Kain Fordham
Lily is a graphic design manager at dfs creative concepts. She handles many of the print and digital design needs that our clients have. Anything from a print magazine ad to a custom website’s design framework, her job is to understand our clients and give them exactly what they want (and more). Lily also designs typefaces, a skillset which requires a keen eye for detail. Our clients appreciate her concierge-level approach to taking their design needs to the next, most polished and professional level.
Emily is a hybrid between an account coordinator and graphic designer, jumping in wherever needs arise within client accounts. You can find her working on anything from custom websites, to social media content curation, to cultivating new brands and refreshing legacy ones. Emily works with clients ranging from the local business-next-door to our enterprise clients . . . And everything in between. She is known for living at the intersection of precision and creativity, and our clients appreciate her dedication.
Emily is a Pennsylvania native but a southerner at heart. After moving to Greenville, she attended Bob Jones University where she graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in marketing. Though a business school graduate by title, her true passion lies in the field of graphic design where she spent years cultivating her capabilities. As a budding entrepreneur, Emily started her own graphic design business while earning top marks as a student. Yes, that’s right. She pretty much has it all.
While attending Bob Jones University, she joined the dfs creative concepts team as a summer associate and later completed a marketing internship with Southern Tide. She was actively involved in her collegiate branch of the University Marketing Association and was a member of the design committee, creating graphics for events. Her love for the dfs creative concepts family and its spectacular clients made it an easy “yes” when she was offered a full-time position. When Emily’s out of the office, you can find her enjoying anything outdoors. From biking the Swamp Rabbit to relaxing on the South Carolina Coast, she loves it all. On Sunday mornings, she adores worshipping with her church family at North Hills Church.

As the trusted right hand to our Account Managers, she provides timely and successful results to meet all strategic marketing objectives.

From assisting professors at The Atlanta Speech School to assisting several entrepreneurs with their go-to-market campaigns, Katy has a vast array of unique skills that allow her to bring in fresh perspectives to our clients. She started her time at dfs creative concepts as a summer associate several years ago, and after successful completion of our learning lab program was offered part-time employment. Due to her excellent work, dfs creative concepts was thrilled to add her as a full-time account coordinator. Nobody knows our processes as thoroughly as Katy does! After all, she’s lived with them for several years.
Katy is the jet setter of our team. After returning from nearly half a year in Australia, where she studied various marketing techniques and collaborations, she came back to our dfs creative concepts family with fresh ideas and a newfound appreciation of the world around us.
Emma Turpin is one of the newest account coordinators at dfs creative concepts. She works closely with our account managers on everything from client branding to design projects. She loves working with our clients and designing strategic marketing campaigns. Contributing to clients’ success and happiness is her prime motivation.
A Greenville native, Emma has a vast knowledge of the Upstate market and its various audiences. As a graduate of Clemson University, Emma engaged in a rigorous academic schedule focusing on marketing and psychology. The union of these two gives Emma a unique perspective on how the two affect each other for the benefit of her clients.
Prior to her time with dfs creative concepts, Emma worked for Table 301 as well as Clemson University. Her work background afforded her extensive experience in concierge-level customer service and management. She works efficiently and effectively with her coworkers, clients, and our vendor partners.
In her free time, Emma loves traveling to new places. One of her favorite memories involved an extensive marketing training experience in Bilbao, Spain. She also enjoys going to the beach or any of our Upstate lakes, trying new restaurants, kickboxing, and spending time with friends and family.
Fun Fact: Emma has an Instagram account dedicated to her love for culinary creations. If you need inspiration for your next meal, check out @these.girls.can.eat!

Previously, she served as a project manager in Clemson’s Erwin Center for Brand Communications to further explore and exercise her talents. While working at the Erwin Center, she led two project teams where she focused on launching video productions and websites. She loves testing her creative limits and pushing artistic boundaries.
A native of Traveler’s Rest, SC, Sullivan is our company mascot. She hails from Carolina Gilded Retrievers, where Dana Spinks personally selected her to join our DFS family due to her sweet spirit, spunky personality and great hair. Sullivan is known for greeting everyone with a smile, and has rapidly risen through the ranks to be known also as Chief Happiness Officer for the company. She takes this job very seriously, and we are happy to report that she “nails it every time” when she’s in the office.
